Skyview High School Physical Education

(Each student should print a copy of this page, then both the student and parent are to read, and sign it. Students are expected to return the signed form to their PE teacher.)

Our Staff believes strongly in the importance of regular physical exercise and lifelong fitness. Physical Education classes stress the development of fundamental skills and basic game strategies along with daily fitness activities. Our goal is to develop a positive attitude toward physical fitness and to teach useable skills that will carry over into post-secondary life. We encourage students to develop a habit of lifelong exercise and to enjoy the benefits that fitness brings with it.

Non-Suits

Students are required to dress down for all PE classes. Developing responsibility is one goal of the Physical Education Department. It is the students' responsibility, not the parents, to have clothes for PE every day and clean them when needed. Students may NOT wear to class, what they wear to school. They must change their clothes in the appropriate locker room, not in the hallway or bathroom, and lock up all valuables with the lock provided. In order to stress the importance of changing their clothes for class and to make an impact on their grade, twenty (20) points will be subtracted from their grade for each time they do not dress down for PE. Ten points for not bringing clean clothes and ten points for not participating in class. Nine (9) non-suits WILL result in a grade of an "F". Parents will be notified if not dressing down for class becomes a problem. Written doctor's notes are the only acceptable excuse for not participating or dressing down, if the note applies. For most injuries or conditions students may have, they will still be expected to dress down and participate the best they can, or they will be asked to dress down and do a modified activity. The key here is dress down every day.

Attendance

Attendance is mandatory. All excused absences will receive -10 every day excused. These points CAN be earned back by doing a make-up. All unexcused or truant absences will receive -20 points for every day gone. These points can NOT be earned back. The reason why -20 points is marked down for each day absent is to equal the point value of a non-suit. Ten (10) or more truancies, non-suits, or combination of these two will result in an "F" grade. Students who are tardy will receive -2 for the first tardy, -3 for the second tardy, and -5 for the third tardy and every tardy thereafter, plus a detention will be given on the 5th through 7th tardy, and a referral will be given on the 8th tardy and every tardy after that.

Make-ups

Students with excused absences or excused non-suits may make up points lost with a 30-45 minute dress down activity. All make-ups need to be arranged BEFORE attending any make-up session. Make-up times can be, but not limited to; before school, during lunch, and after school. Only three (3) make-ups can be done away from school with a signed and returned PE make-up form. Forms are available in PE offices. All make-ups and forms must be completed and returned before the end of the quarter.

Grading

Each student can earn up to 10 points per day for participation which displayes effort, cooperation and sportsmanship. Bringing clean clothes and dressing down is required and will be factored into the student's grade. Written tests, projects, and/or fitness tests may also be factored into the student's grade.

Locker Room

Each student will be assigned a small locker that is not to be shared. Any damage to your assigned locker is your responsibility. Report any damage to your teacher immediately. Do not share your combination with any other student. All lost or stolen locks must be replaced by the student whom the lock was issued to. You may not use a personal lock on your locker. Large lockers are to be used for locking up your bags, coats, and any other personal items you bring into the locker room during your period only. Do not leave your lock on any big locker after your class. Before you leave the locker room put all your belongings back into your small assigned locker.

Roll Call

Roll call will be taken five minutes after the class has begun. Be in your assigned area prior to roll call.

Lost and Found

All lost and found items will be kept in the physical education office. Lock all valuables in your locker at all times. If you have lost something notify your teacher immediately. All items unclaimed at the end of each quarter will be donated to a worthy cause.
